Universal Design for Learning: Accessibility at the Library
Instructor: Terrill F. Thompson, Technology Accessibility Specialist, UW-IT Accessible Technology Services, University of Washington

Abstract
More and more libraries and educational institutions provide content online, including databases, archival collections, documents, and videos. But how much of this information is accessible to individuals with disabilities? Libraries and other institutions are legally required to provide accessible content. This hands-on, lab-based class, originally offered as a four-part webinar series, will provide basic steps participants can take to make their content accessible to all.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
-
Recognize the need for accessible online content and the benefits of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
-
Identify common barriers posed by inaccessible websites and digital documents.
-
Practice basic methods for creating accessible documents.
-
Include accessibility when talking with vendors, making procurement decisions, and negotiating contracts.
